In Memoriam

AFE 2001 national president H. Gwinn Henry

AFE 2001 national president H. Gwinn Henry, PE/CPE/CEM, died December 20 from complications of diabetes. A resident of Woodland Hills, California, he was 79. Survivors include his wife, Maurine, five children and five grandchildren. For many years Gwinn's work as a mechanical engineer was centered in the aviation industry, particularly with General Electric and Hughes. In later years he headed H.G. Henry & Associates. He also was involved in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers and the Center for Environmental Technology. He began his AFE presidency with a message in the journal pledging support for membership and chapter development.

He also initiated steps for a building fund, hoping that one day AFE would occupy its own facility, complete not just with staff offices but classrooms for certification and professional development courses. Gwinn was a very intelligent man, a very knowledgeable and experienced engineer. He also had a lot of business sense, and those assets made him a very capable leader for AFE,'s 2007 President Tom Baxter, also of California, said. Gwinn was a graduate of the University of Southern California and a longtime supporter of its football team. A memorial service was held December 28. The family suggested memorial donations to the charity of the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.
